Awakening He did not cry. He tried to lift his head from my chest and open his eyes to the brilliant world. This was no extension of myself. This was a life completely and wonderfully apart, minutes cut from the umbilical cord, yet eternally separate, his alone. And I, as Father, was merely steward. My god what a change overcame the universe. An existential miracle. A material conversion. The finite had become more wondrous than all your philosophies, dear Bard. Suddenly, there were no more principles, no more laws, no more meanings than this: my child, my wife, myself. And I saw my life with eyes infinite in expectation.
