A Day In The Life is Tobin Mueller's homage to The Beatles. This webpage will act as a place to list track titles, preview drafts and concept tracks, determine song order, assist with collaborative processes, etc.
The Beatles have inspired multiple generations across the musical spectrum. Mueller brings his unique world fusion stylings to each arrangement. Jazz, blues, soul, hip hop, Brazillian and Afro-Cuba textures, and a theatrical sense of drama and storytelling embue each track with a distinctive, fresh feel. The listener will come away with a whole new perspective on these Beatle's classics.
“
One of the most diverse and talented jazz arranger-composers today. Contemporary jazz at its finest."
What sets this recording apart from every previous release by Mueller will be the vocal contributions of Emily Rohm. Mueller discovered her as a child performer and first recorded her for his series of youth musicals. He cast her in his Off-Broadway musical drama "Creature", for which she received her Equity card. Since then, she has toured with several Broadway shows, most noteably the world premiere of "Ride the Cyclone". Her first solo album "Traveling Show" (2021) contained two songs written by Mueller. He tapped her to sing on his world jazz arrangement of "Sorceress" as well as a handful of tracks from his Best of Tobin Mueller series, but has never featured her this extensively on one of his albums. Her versatile stylings, vocal creativity, and ability to bring lyrics to life is apparent in each performance.
Emily Rohm, featured vocalist
Mueller has tapped other talented musicians, as well. Featured soloists include musicians he has worked with on several previous albums, including Fragments, Slight of Hand (Prestidigitation), Standard Deviations, and Come In Funky). These include: L. A. vocalist and saxophonist Woody Mankowski, NYC cellist Noah Hoffeld), Isreali/Portalnd guitarist Amit Erez, Nashville brass specialist Mikie Martel and Amsterdam percussionist Ruben de Ruiter. See The Band for a complete list. Award-winning Kenny Cash (Factory Underground Studio) produces.
“
Mueller showcases great players. But even more so, his collaborations capture at its zenith Mueller’s genius ability to dance in and out of motifs and themes, while paying such great respect to composers who came before. He conjures a breadth of emotions and memories effortlessly, expansively, beautifully... Simply awesome."
John LaMantia, contributing critic for Downbeat Magazine
Mueller has recorded with Grammy winners Dave Brubeck, Michael Hedges, Donny McCaslin, Maynard Ferguson, Jon Anderson (from Yes), Brian Welch ("Head" from Korn), Roy Agee (Prince's trombonist), guitarist Bob Lanzetti (founding member of Snarky Puppy), Carl Fischer, Sal Giorgianni, and bass legend Ron Carter, as well as Grammy nominees Dane Richeson (Blue Note Records), Ken Schaphorst (founding member of Boston-based Jazz Composers Alliance), Scott Rockenfield (Queensrÿche). He collaborated with Blues Hall of Fame guitarist and Grammy winner Paul Nelson on two albums, Slight of Hand and Standard Deviations.
Mueller is counted as one of the founders of New Age music, although his stylings fit more precisely into the experimental post-bop modal jazz category. He stands alongside a contemporary jazz field that includes Brad Mehldau, Fred Hersch, Gerald Clayton, David Lanz and Liz Story.
“
Tobin Mueller proves his originality, his inquisitiveness as a musician and thinker. His fluid, full throttle energy is inspiring. His compositional vocabulary and his prowess as a musician are eloquent and elegant, lively and whimsical, provocative and inspirational by turns. Genius."
Clearly, Tobin Mueller can fill emptiness with his own brilliance and creativity. I am captivated and keep turning the tunes, like pages, listening for the unexpected, the excitement, the beauty that Mueller produces as an artist. Two-fisted energy and grit. Blossoms blowing in the wind. Mueller's music brings my ears great reward. Pure bliss."

“
I am in awe of Tobin’s fearless pursuit of honesty and originality in his work. If you have his entire collection, you know he will not duplicate anything previously recorded! One of the most innovative minds creating music today. Challenging yet accessible, Mueller’s music is never predictable and always takes us someplace new and surprising."
