The Sound of Money is a delightful and informative children's musical about economics. Created in collaboration with the Wisconsin Council of Economic Educators, this show is perfect for home or schools trying to integrate economics into their curriculum. Performed by the CenterStage Players.

The Sound of Money is a 40 minute musical full of drama and humor that brings to life the specific vocabulary and concepts of elementary and middle school economics lessons. This recording features Xavier Leath portraying the Scottish Father of Economics, Adam Smith, as well as professional singers Janet Planet, Tim Dorsey and Tobin Mueller.

A ship full of kids crashes on a deserted island. They must take stock of their resources and create and economy from the ground up. In the process, they discover the importance of community. They learn that an economy is nothing more than each person satisfying the needs of his neighbors. By the end of the story, they are ready to begin exporting the goods they have made. Perfect for grades 5 through 8. This show is very versatile, having been performed by casts as small as 24 and as large as 89 students!

The music is bright, and the lyrics are fun as well as informative."
- Booklist 10/15/90

The music is upbeat and full of variety. For example, "Supply and Demand" is taught in an auction accompanied by fiddle hoedown music. A wonderfully entertaining teaching tool with enchanting illustrations by Cathy Vanderhyden. If you are interested in the illustrated book (for home or classroom), full scripts, background accompaniment CDs or more information, contact Tobin Mueller or learn more at CenterStage-Musicals. Appropriate for grades 2-12; target grades for stage performance: 5-9.

This recording was made in 1989 and has been remastered for this release by Factory Underground Studios. Originally recorded at Bonzai Studio, Jeff Maroszek engineer.
