Don't you jinx me, now.
I'm a lucky boy.
That's what I call myself.
I'm a lucky boy.
That's what I got to call myself.
And I don't need money.
Don't need no steady job.
'Cuz I'm a lucky boy.
Don't need no fairytales to help me sleep at night.
Don't need to read a set of books to figure out what's right.
Don't need to do somebody good to make me feel okay.
Don't need you talking in my ear to tell me what to say,
'Cuz I'm a lucky boy.
Got to stay relaxed or my luck will turn sour...

This is a whimsical blues tune about the lies we tell ourselves. The use of the term "lucky" is ironic, accentuated by the blues style, the way the electric guitar solo can't quite get out of the dominant chord and yet never really resolves, and the way the song withers away instead of ends. I send the vocals through a guitar amp to put it in the same place as the guitar: in a kind of box (figuratively). A story about someone who never fulfills his promise yet can't quite muster the gumption to change, this is blues meant to make you smile with its quirkiness.
String bass is by Ron Carter, put through a Ring Modulator that messes with Q and other frequency-driven effects. Ron Carter also plays on Come In Funky.
